Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI)

Dynamic movement intervention (DMI) uses a range of functional motions and positions to stimulate neuroplasticity, allowing your child to develop new neuronal connections.  This dynamic handling technique are used by both occupational and physical therapist to promotes the development of gross motor milestones including rolling, sitting, crawling, transitional movements, standing skills and walking. The goal of DMI is to elicit a consistent and specific active motor response from the child by completing an exercise multiple times per session, across sessions.

DMI therapy works well in conjunction with other therapeutic techniques and equipment. These are often combined in a treatment session to provide better alignment and enhance desired movements.

Intensive Therapy Can Include:

  • Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT)
  • Sensory Processing Integration
  • TASES
  • Primitive Reflex Integration
  • Whole Body vibration Therapy
  • Utilization of Orthotic Devices to improve alignment & muscle activation

Who is Dynamic Movement Intervention For?

DMI therapy works to accelerate a child’s motor skills progress over time, and therefore this form of therapy benefits children diagnosed with a range of conditions, mainly those affecting a child’s neurological ability. Some of which may include:
